[Purpose Statement]
This course explores the information revolution in modern society and its implications for health care and health  promotion, including examination of the growing applications of information technologies for health care delivery,  interactive communication campaigns, self-management of care/patient empowerment, health behavior change, and  health care delivery system management. It will provide an overview of technological applications in contemporary  health communication research, including a range of computer, Internet, social media, gaming, mobile applications,  and artificial intelligence, and offer observations and reflections on this emerging area. The course will review the  literature on ehealth communication campaigns, issues related to its design and evaluation, promising health  applications across multiple levels of communication, different communication channels, and diverse communication  media and information technologies.
