주제: Reflecting on Narrative Entertainment

Audiences return to the same media content again and again, and often spend a great deal of time, mental effort, and money seeking additional opportunities to engage with familiar narrative worlds. This asynchronous involvement with fictional stories is common: Who hasn’t dissected a favorite film with friends, or imagined if things had turned out differently for a beloved character? Entertainment scholars call this cognitive investment in a narrative, retrospective imaginative involvement. This retrospective engagement with narratives has been largely ignored by entertainment scholars. In this talk, I will outline our initial work in this area and layout a general framework for studying retrospective imaginative involvement.   


강연자 소개:
David R. Ewoldsen received a joint Ph.D. in psychology and speech communication at Indiana University in 1990. After completing his Ph.D., he was a postdoctoral fellow in the cognitive sciences program at Vanderbilt University. He has held faculty positions at the University of Alabama and Ohio State University. He is currently professor of Media and Information at Michigan State University. Dr. Ewoldsen’s research focuses primarily on media psychology. He is a fellow of the International Communication Association.
